Assateague Island
from Bob Cantor's National Parks Photo Gallery
Assateague Island is home to 2 areas run by the National Park Service: Assateague Island National Seashore (in Maryland) and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (in Virginia). All of the pictures here are from the National Seashore.

This picture of sunrise was taken was taken from the top of the ridge at the back of the beach. The campground I stayed at is directly behind the ridge.
This area is best known for its wild horses, called Chincoteague Ponies. This picture was taken from the Life of the Marsh Nature Trail, one of 3 short nature trails in the area.
This sunset was taken from nearly the same place as the sunrise. All I had to do was turn around.
And yet another picture from almost the exact same spot, this one of the dunes at the back of the beach.
Another picture of sunrise.
